When a figure, label or claim on this site turns out to be wrong, we fix it and record it here: what was wrong, what we changed and when. Most of these were found by our own checks.

What was wrongA pin-by-pin check of all 411 sites found 24 pins in the wrong place, among them ProAxsis (shown in Antrim town instead of the Titanic Quarter, Belfast), West (shown in central Dublin instead of Damastown), Zoetis, Jabil, Antylia (on the county centre instead of Mullingar), Phyxiom and Maperath Herbal; several pins labelled as exact sites, such as Sanofi and AbbVie, were more than half a kilometre from the plant.
What we changedMoved the 24 pins to the published address of each site, located via OpenStreetMap, and relabelled their precision honestly. Pins whose position could not be confirmed this way are listed for a check by hand.
What was wrong143 organisations shared a pin with others because only their town was known: 46 sat on one point in Dublin city centre, 15 on one point in Galway, and others in Belfast, Cork, Little Island, Waterford, Kilkenny, Dundalk and Clonmel. Several pins labelled as exact sites were in the wrong place, among them the two Janssen sites (pinned at Carrigaline instead of Ringaskiddy) and Integer, formerly Aran Biomedical (pinned at Parkmore instead of Spiddal).
What we changedLooked up the published address of each organisation and moved 103 pins to their building, business park or street using OpenStreetMap, each with the source of the address. The largest shared point now holds 10 organisations, most of which publish only a registered office; those stay at town level and say so.
What was wrongBoth pages described the list of manufacturing sites and its employee counts as compiled by our desk from IDA Ireland, company and planning material. The original 213-site list and every headcount came from the public GetReskilled list of pharmaceutical and medical device factories in Ireland, and the headcounts carry no date. The map also stated a Creative Commons licence over the whole dataset, and the quarterly report gave one employment total as if it covered every facility.
What we changedGetReskilled is now credited wherever a headcount appears: on the map, in each pin, in the sources section, in the downloadable file and in the citation. The licence statement was removed, and the employment total now says how many sites it covers.
What was wrongA site-by-site check of 301 manufacturing sites found errors on the map. The Vantive plant in Swinford was pinned on the Castlebar plant; the Stryker sites at Macroom and Model Farm Road and the Viatris plant in Baldoyle shared the pin of another site of the same company; 17 pins labelled as exact sites were more than 1.5 km from the plant (among them MSD Carlow, MSD Ballydine, Lilly Limerick and LEO Pharma Dublin); Dunbar Pharma and Arran Chemical, both at Monksland, were listed under Westmeath instead of Roscommon, and Pinewood Healthcare under Tipperary instead of Waterford; Connexicon Medical linked to the ICON plc profile; four companies appeared twice; 11 manufacturing plants were shown as research or service companies; and 107 verified manufacturing sites were missing.
What we changedMoved or relabelled 76 pins using OpenStreetMap, so a pin now says whether it marks the site, its business park, or only its town; corrected the three counties; removed the wrong profile link and the four duplicates; reclassified the 11 plants; and added the 107 missing sites, each with the source it was checked against. Pins that are still approximate say so and are being checked by hand.
What was wrongA fact-check of 107 claims found 28 wrong, 6 outdated and 21 that could not be verified. The guide listed Wasdell's Dundalk plant, which closed in 2024; placed Thermo Fisher's Cork site in Ringaskiddy instead of Currabinny; described Hovione's equipment with text that belonged to another company; used an outdated tax rate (12.5% and a 6.25% Knowledge Development Box); ranked Ireland third in the world for pharma exports; and labelled sites "FDA approved", which the FDA does not do for facilities.
What we changedRemoved Wasdell (the guide now covers eight companies), corrected locations, figures, dates and ownership to published sources, replaced "FDA approved" with the regulator that actually licenses or inspects each site (HPRA, MHRA, FDA inspection), updated the Ireland facts (CSO exports of €138.6bn in 2025, 15% tax for large groups, 10% KDB), removed claims we could not confirm, and added the sources used. A correction notice sits at the top of the article.
What was wrongThe header showed three figures with no stated source: "€2.1B+ Irish pharma exports monthly", "300+ life science companies in Ireland" and "90+ global pharma firms with Irish operations". The exports figure was well below the CSO's published monthly value.
What we changedReplaced with figures calculated from our own registers: the latest month of Irish pharmaceutical exports from CSO table TSM09 (€6.9bn in July 2026), and the number of Irish-registered companies of the groups in our company financials register (263, across 51 groups), each linked to its source.
What was wrongThe ClinicalTrials.gov search used a free-text location match, which also picked up studies outside the Republic of Ireland, such as sites with "Ireland" in their name elsewhere and sites in Northern Ireland. The dashboard counted 3,146 studies, of which 456 had no site in Ireland.
What we changedThe search now filters on the location country field, and a study is counted only when it lists an Irish site. The dashboard now covers 2,691 studies; the Ireland trials register went from 616 to 603.
What was wrong41 trials whose CTIS status is "Not authorised" were listed among authorised trials, and several CTIS status codes were labelled imprecisely.
What we changedTrials that were not authorised are no longer listed, and every status label now matches the CTIS status code it comes from.
What was wrongThree matching errors in the first-approval data: name cleaning shortened some two-word substances (for example epoetin alfa), so a 2018 biosimilar appeared as the first US approval; insulin glargine showed a 2015 approval as first instead of Lantus (2000); and 17 of 94 biosimilars had no approval date. A discontinued product also gave metformin a patent expiry in 2035.
What we changedCorrected the name matching and date parsing, and excluded discontinued products from patent data. Epoetin alfa now shows Epogen (1989), insulin glargine shows Lantus (2000), and every biosimilar has its date.
What was wrongAn accuracy check of 1,419 profile items (leadership, products, sites, milestones) against their cited sources found 14 that did not hold up, including product lists that were therapy areas rather than products and an Irish site that had since been sold.
What we changedCorrected 4 items and removed 10. Every remaining profile item links to the source it was checked against, with the date of the check.
What was wrongThe directory listed a Wasdell facility in Dundalk that closed in 2024, and several profiles overstated employee numbers or facility sizes, gave wrong addresses (HiTech Health, Cambrex Waterford) or used an unsourced investment figure (WuXi Biologics).
What we changedRemoved the closed facility, corrected figures and addresses to published sources, and removed claims we could not confirm.
