Revenue, R&D spend and profit for the pharma, biotech, medtech and research groups with operations in Ireland, from their own annual reports, and the Irish companies each group has registered.
Johnson & Johnson reported the largest revenue of the US-dollar reporters, $94.19bn for the year to Dec 2025, according to its annual report filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Across the 40 groups here that report both revenue and R&D, the median company spent 16.3% of revenue on research and development, and BioNTech SE spent the highest share, 73.3%. Figures are copied from each group's XBRL financial statements in the currency it reports in; companies reporting in euro, pounds, kroner or yen are listed separately rather than converted.
R&D expense divided by revenue, both as reported in the latest annual report. The share does not depend on currency, so every group can be compared.
Not charted because R&D spending was larger than revenue, as is normal for companies whose products are still in development: Autolus Therapeutics plc ($118m R&D, $75.4m revenue), Bicycle Therapeutics plc ($240m R&D, $72.6m revenue), Mereo BioPharma Group plc ($17.8m R&D, $500,000 revenue), Moderna, Inc. ($3.13bn R&D, $1.94bn revenue), Silence Therapeutics plc ($67.8m R&D, $559,000 revenue).
Contract research organisations (ICON, IQVIA, Charles River) do not report a separate R&D line, so they are not in this chart. Some companies tag R&D excluding acquired in-process R&D; the company pages say where that applies.

"Change" is revenue against the previous financial year, from the same filings. "R&D %" is R&D expense divided by revenue. Net income is the profit attributable to the company's shareholders where the filing tags it, otherwise total profit.

These groups file 20-F annual reports under IFRS in their home currency (euro, pounds sterling, Danish kroner or Japanese yen). The figures are not converted, so compare them within a currency, or use the percentages.
Each company page lists the Irish companies by name, with CRO number, type and the date of the last accounts filed. A company is counted when GLEIF's legal entity register links it to the group as its ultimate parent, or when we matched its name and registered address by hand; dissolved companies are not counted. Holding, finance and treasury companies are included, so the count reflects how a group is structured in Ireland, not how many sites or staff it has here.
What these figures are. Revenue, R&D expense and net income are the values each group tagged in the XBRL financial statements of its annual report (10-K, or 20-F for foreign private issuers) filed with the SEC, taken from the SEC's companyfacts data. Each year comes from the most recent annual report that includes it, so earlier years reflect any restatement; every figure links to its filing. Groups that do not file with the SEC (for example Roche, Bayer or Eurofins) have no financial figures here, but their Irish companies are listed. Financial years follow each company's own calendar: Medtronic's ends in April and Takeda's in March. This is reference data, not investment advice.
Every financial figure is the value the company itself filed. Percentages and year-on-year changes are calculated here from those values and labelled as such.
A weekly job downloads each group's SEC companyfacts file, GLEIF relationship records and the matching CRO rows, and stores them. The list of companies and their SEC and LEI identifiers is kept by hand. No AI drafting and no editorial pass. See our editorial standards. The the SEC, GLEIF and the CRO data on this page was last retrieved on 30 Sep 2026.
