How much EU research money Irish universities, hospitals, research bodies and companies have won for health and medical research, who won it, and for which projects, from the European Commission's own grant records.
Irish organisations have received €202.6m from Horizon Europe for health and medical research across 278 projects since 2021, according to the European Commission's CORDIS grant records, led by University College Dublin (€26.0m). Universities and colleges received 56% of it and Irish companies €57.8m. Ireland's organisations took 2.1% of the EU money in these projects, compared with 2.6% (€274.0m) under Horizon 2020 in 2014-2020. Horizon Europe runs to 2027, so its totals are still growing.
Each project is counted in the year it started, with the whole EU contribution to its Irish participants. Horizon 2020 projects that started in 2021-2022 were funded from calls closed before Horizon Europe began. Recent years fill in as new grants are signed.

What counts here. A project is included when it is funded under the programme's health budget line (Horizon Europe Cluster 1 "Health", or Horizon 2020 societal challenge "Health, demographic change and well-being", which includes the Innovative Medicines Initiative), or when CORDIS classifies it mainly under medical and health sciences or medical engineering. An organisation is Irish when its registered country in CORDIS is Ireland. Amounts are the EU contribution to each Irish participant as published by the European Commission, not the total project cost; totals, shares and counts are calculated here. Northern Ireland organisations are recorded under the United Kingdom and are not included.
