2,698 studies registered on ClinicalTrials.gov list at least one site in Ireland, 357 of them open to enrolment today. 143 studies started in 2025 (78 industry-sponsored), and 47 have started in 2026 so far (21 more list an anticipated 2026 start). 911 studies (34%) run in Ireland only; the rest are multinational. Studies registered only in the EU system (CTIS) are counted separately below.

The EU register (CTIS)
since 2023Since January 2023 every EU trial of a medicine must be authorised through the EU Clinical Trials Information System, and many of those are never registered on ClinicalTrials.gov. In our CTIS feed (the 2,557 most recent decisions of 12,568 in the register, from 29 Aug 2025), 89 authorised trials include Irish sites, 73 of them decided in the last 12 months. They are listed on the EU trials register. The two registries overlap but neither contains the other, so the totals on this page cannot simply be added.
What this dashboard counts. Every ClinicalTrials.gov record with at least one location in Ireland, in every status, as returned by the registry's API. Studies registered only in CTIS or EudraCT, and studies run in Ireland without any registration, are not included. Enrolment figures, start and completion dates, phases and sponsor types are as the sponsor registered them and may be anticipated or out of date; a study's enrolment covers all its countries, not Ireland alone. This page is a count of registrations, not a measure of trial quality, patient numbers or investment.
