QC analyst salary in Ireland: 2026 pay for chemistry, microbiology and biologics QC
What a QC analyst does in an Irish plant
A QC analyst tests raw materials, in-process samples and finished product against their specifications, so nothing is released until its quality has been shown. EU GMP Chapter 6 says quality control covers "sampling, specifications and testing", and that its independence from production "is considered fundamental".
The same chapter lists the work a QC laboratory carries: validated test methods, written sampling procedures, a procedure for out-of-specification and out-of-trend results, environmental monitoring data where required, and an on-going stability programme that follows each product through its shelf life. Our article on data integrity in the QC laboratory covers the record-keeping side.
Chemistry QC and microbiology QC
Chemistry QC covers tests such as impurity levels and dissolution, both named in Chapter 6's stability section, and Life Science Recruitment lists HPLC analyst as its own title. Microbiology QC covers work such as environmental monitoring and culture media, which Chapter 6 says must be prepared and controlled to written procedures. Life Science Recruitment also lists bioassay analyst separately, and Morgan McKinley prices biologics QC analysts as their own band.
QC analyst salary in Ireland by level
Morgan McKinley is the only 2026 guide we found that splits QC analyst pay by years of experience and by discipline. The table shows its Dublin figures for chemistry, microbiology and biologics, with no averaging.

|---|---|---|---|
| 0-3 years | €38k-45k | €35k-42k | €40k-45k |

The other two 2026 guides give one range per job title rather than per level, and set different floors. The second table puts all three side by side.

Contract rates
Life Science Recruitment lists €20 to €35 an hour for QC, HPLC and bioassay analysts, €25 to €40 for microbiologists and chemists, and €30 to €45 for a QC supervisor. Our guide to daily rates vs salary in Irish pharma contracting explains how to compare a rate with a permanent offer.
What moves QC pay: discipline, region, shift and contract
In Morgan McKinley's figures, experience moves QC pay most, followed by discipline and location. In its Dublin figures, chemistry and biologics QC analysts earn the same from three years on, while microbiology sits €3k-5k lower at each level.
Region
Collins McNicholas shows the West and North West paying the most for QC lab analysts and the North East and Midwest the least. The guide names its regions but does not list the counties in each.
| Region (Collins McNicholas 2026) | Chemistry Lab Analyst | Microbiology Lab Analyst |
|---|---|---|
| Dublin | €35k-50k | €35k-50k |
| South | €33k-48k | €32k-44k |
| South East | €33k-45k | €32k-42k |
| Midlands | €32k-45k | €32k-40k |
| Midwest | €32k-42k | €32k-40k |
| West | €40k-50k | €40k-50k |
| North West | €40k-50k | €40k-50k |
| North East | €32k-40k | €32k-40k |

Morgan McKinley's city pages show a smaller gap, at entry level only. A chemistry QC analyst with 0-3 years earns €38k-45k in Dublin and €35k-45k in Cork; a biologics QC analyst earns €40k-45k in Dublin and €35k-45k in Cork. From three years on, the ranges match.
Shift, benefits and contract
None of these guides publishes a shift allowance, so ask whether a quoted figure is base pay or includes one. Life Science Recruitment says pay rose by up to 10% a year for many professionals, and that bonuses, pension, family healthcare and sign-on incentives now decide many offers. Compare wider pay in our Irish pharma salary guide.
Graduate entry and qualifications
Graduate pay is the bottom band of each guide. Morgan McKinley's entry band, 0-3 years, starts at €35k for microbiology and €38k for chemistry in Dublin, and Life Science Recruitment's QC analyst range starts at €30k.
Irish courses that lead into QC include ATU's honours degree in bioanalytical science, SETU's certificate in industrial microbiology and biopharmaceuticals and NIBRT's MSc in biopharmaceutical science. Search more in our course finder.
Progression: QC team lead, QA, validation or QP
Four routes lead on from a QC bench, and each has published pay.
- Up the lab: Collins McNicholas lists a Dublin QC team leader at €50k-70k, a QC supervisor at €55k-70k and a QC manager at €75k-95k.
- Into QA: Life Science Recruitment lists a QA specialist at €35k-60k and a senior QA specialist at €60k-75k. See our QA specialist salary guide.
- Into validation: the same survey lists QA validation at €50k-85k and cleaning validation at €50k-80k.
- Towards QP: the HPRA's QP guide counts practical experience in "qualitative analysis of medicinal products", "quantitative analysis of active substances" and testing, usually for at least two years at sites holding a manufacturing authorisation (MIA) in the EEA. See how to become a QP in Ireland.
Where the QC analyst jobs are in Ireland
QC labs sit inside licensed plants, and our Ireland pharma map lists 331 operating manufacturing sites on the island. Most are in Galway (50), Cork (44) and Dublin (44), followed by Antrim and Waterford (17 each) and Limerick (16).
About 72 of those sites make pharma products or APIs and about 20 make biologics. EU GMP requires every holder of a medicines manufacturing authorisation to have a quality control department. In Cork, Ringaskiddy hosts Pfizer, Hovione and Recordati, Carrigtwohill hosts AbbVie and Gilead, and MSD runs a biologics site at Brinny. See the Pfizer Ireland and MSD Ireland company pages, and check who's hiring in Irish pharma this week for current openings.
