QA specialist salary in Ireland: 2026 pay by level, region and sector
What a QA specialist does in an Irish pharma or medtech plant
A QA specialist keeps a plant's quality system working, so that every batch can be shown to meet its approved standards. EU GMP does not define the job title. It defines the quality system tasks a licensed site must run, and those are the tasks QA teams carry.
EU GMP Chapter 1 requires that significant deviations are investigated to find the root cause, with corrective and preventive action; that planned changes are evaluated and approved before they are made; that product quality reviews are normally done each year; and that self-inspection checks the system. EU GMP Chapter 2 adds shared quality duties such as approving written procedures, approving and monitoring suppliers and contract manufacturers, training, and monitoring GMP compliance. No batch is sold until a Qualified Person (QP) certifies it.
In a medtech plant the same work is organised around ISO 13485. Irish device sites that supply the US now work to the FDA's Quality Management System Regulation, which took effect on 2 February 2026 and incorporates ISO 13485:2016 by reference. Our guide to CAPA vs root cause analysis covers the investigation work in more depth.
QA specialist salary in Ireland by level
Three Irish recruiters published QA specialist ranges for 2026, and they do not agree. The guides measure different things. Morgan McKinley says its figures are average ranges "considering a number of variables (industry, location, level of seniority etc.)", based on its placements. Collins McNicholas says its guide draws on more than 6,000 candidates and over 400 placements between January and March 2026.
Contract rates
Life Science Recruitment lists contract rates of €30 to €50 an hour for a QA specialist and €50 to €90 an hour for a senior QA specialist. Whether a day rate beats a salary depends on unpaid gaps, pension and tax, which our guide to daily rates vs salary in Irish pharma contracting works through.
What moves QA specialist pay: sector, region, shift and contract
In the guides that split pay by years, experience moves it most, but sector, location, shift and contract type also change the figure on an offer.
Biologics, small molecule and medtech
None of the three guides splits QA specialist pay between biologics and small molecule plants, so we cannot give a premium for either. Life Science Recruitment notes that investment in biologics and vaccine plants "continues to fuel demand for experienced contractors" in areas including quality assurance.
Medtech quality titles differ. Collins McNicholas has no medtech QA specialist row, but lists a medtech Quality Engineer in Dublin at €50k-70k. Life Science Recruitment grades quality engineers from €42k-50k (Quality Eng I) to €63k-70k (Senior Quality Eng I).
Region
Collins McNicholas shows a biopharma QA specialist earning €42k-55k in the North East and up to €70k in the West and North West. The guide names its eight regions but does not list the counties in each.
| Region (Collins McNicholas 2026) | QA Specialist, biopharma |
|---|---|
| Dublin | €50k-65k |
| South | €45k-65k |
| South East | €45k-60k |
| Midlands | €45k-60k |
| Midwest | €45k-60k |
| West | €50k-70k |
| North West | €55k-70k |
| North East | €42k-55k |

Morgan McKinley's city pages differ less. Its average range is €55k-65k in Dublin and Cork, and €50k-65k in Galway and Limerick. Life Science Recruitment's engineering section goes further, saying that for highly skilled roles salaries are now mostly "the same across the board, irrespective of location".
Shift, benefits and contract
None of these guides publishes a shift allowance, so ask whether a quoted figure is base pay or includes any allowance. Life Science Recruitment says most GMP manufacturing and validation roles still need people on site. It also says pay rose by up to 10% a year for many professionals, and that bonuses, pension, family healthcare and sign-on incentives now decide many offers. For wider pay data, see our Irish pharma salary guide.
Qualifications and progression, including the QP track
On the pharma side, one step up from QA specialist is the Qualified Person route. The HPRA's guide to attaining QP status accepts any medical, health or relevant science-based level 8 degree as a primary degree for entry to the approved QP courses.
QA work counts towards a QP's experience. The HPRA asks for practical experience in "quality assurance of medicinal products", analysis and testing, usually for at least two years, gained at sites that hold a manufacturing authorisation (MIA) in the EEA. Time at a plant that does not hold an MIA would not meet that test, so anyone working in a device-only plant should check with the HPRA first. Read our guide on how to become a QP in Ireland and our article on QP salaries in Irish biopharma.
A typical ladder on Life Science Recruitment's figures runs from QA specialist (€35k-60k) to senior QA specialist (€60k-75k), team lead (€60k-75k), QA manager (€60k-90k) and quality director (€95k-130k). A sideways move into QA validation pays €50k-85k on the same survey. Irish courses include UCC's pharmaceutical technology and quality systems programme; search others in our course finder.
Where the QA jobs are in Ireland
QA jobs sit wherever there is a licensed plant, and Ireland has hundreds. Our Ireland pharma map lists 331 operating manufacturing sites on the island, most of them in Galway (50), Cork (44) and Dublin (44), followed by Antrim and Waterford (17 each) and Limerick (16).
- Medtech: about 165 of the 331 sites, with Galway the largest cluster. See the Galway sites.
- Pharma and API: about 72 sites. In Cork, Ringaskiddy hosts Pfizer, Hovione and Recordati.
- Biologics: about 20 sites, including MSD at Brinny in Cork. See the MSD Ireland and Eli Lilly Ireland company pages.
On the EU's EudraGMDP register, 258 Irish sites held a GMP certificate when we read it on 20 September 2026, and every site with a manufacturing authorisation must name a QP. For current openings, check who's hiring in Irish pharma this week. QC analysts can compare their pay in our QC analyst salary guide.
