Airmid Éireann, Ireland's open pharma data project, released version 1.5 on 27 October 2026, adding the HSE list of medicines and products the State pays for, with their prices, as free open data for the first time. The release also adds company revenue by product, deal filings and EU pharma merger cases, bringing the collection to 71 datasets.
- Release: version 1.5.0, archived on Zenodo as 10.5281/zenodo.23688829.
- Size: 71 datasets and 1,770,490 records from 38 official publishers, up from 67 datasets in version 1.4.
- Irish prices: the HSE Primary Care Reimbursement Service list of 8,088 reimbursable items, published with PCRS permission.
- Company data: 23,591 product revenue figures from 40 large pharma, biotech and medtech companies, and 396 deal filings.
- Mergers: 285 European Commission merger cases in the pharmaceutical sector since 1991, with their decisions.
The HSE list of reimbursable items
The HSE Primary Care Reimbursement Service (PCRS) pays pharmacists, GPs and other contractors for the medicines and products supplied under the State schemes, such as the medical card and the Drugs Payment Scheme. Its public list of reimbursable items can be searched on the PCRS website, and Airmid Éireann now publishes the full list as one open dataset, refreshed every week.
| PCRS list | Items |
|---|---|
| Drugs | 5,302 |
| High Tech Drugs (no price published) | 1,038 |
| Ostomy appliances | 1,039 |
| Clinical nutritional products | 496 |
| Urinary appliances | 419 |
| Dressings | 366 |
| Syringes, needles and lancets | 229 |
| Diagnostic agents | 79 |
| All items (some appear on two lists) | 8,088 |
Each item has its PCRS code, pack size and strength, active substance, reimbursement price and, where it applies, a reference price. The 5,302 drugs cover 918 active substances. 1,521 packs, across 98 substances, are reference priced, meaning one price is set for a group of interchangeable medicines. Olanzapine has the most listed packs, with 70, followed by pregabalin with 64 and quetiapine with 61.
High Tech drugs are paid for through a separate arrangement, so the list shows no price for them. Airmid Éireann leaves those prices blank rather than recording them as zero.
PCRS confirmed in writing on 6 October 2026 that its data may be downloaded from its website and published, provided the source is credited. PCRS takes no responsibility for what is published and does not endorse the project.
Revenue by product and deal filings
Two new datasets come from filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission by 40 large pharma, biotech and medtech companies, including AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk, Takeda, Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Boston Scientific and Stryker.
- Revenue by product: 23,591 figures that the companies tagged by product in their annual and quarterly reports, for periods from 2020 to September 2026. For example, Bristol Myers Squibb's product sales under its alliance with Pfizer were tagged at 14.3 billion dollars for 2025, up from 12.0 billion dollars in 2023.
- Deal filings: 396 current reports from 34 companies since 2018 that announce a material agreement or a completed acquisition or disposal, 47 of them completions. Only the filing details are collected, with a link to each document.
EU pharma merger cases
The third new dataset lists 285 merger cases that the European Commission has handled in the pharmaceutical sector since 1991, from manufacturing to wholesale and retail pharmacy. It records each case's notification date, procedure and decisions. There were 13 such cases in 2025 and 12 so far in 2026, most recently BC Partners, ACS Dobfar and Inforlife, notified on 9 October 2026.
What is still waiting
Some planned sources are not included yet. The U.S. Medicare drug spending site refuses connections from Ireland, the PCRS figures on its most dispensed products are only available inside interactive dashboards, and Ireland's Competition and Consumer Protection Commission does not allow commercial reuse of its merger notices. Permission requests sent to ten bodies on 21 October are still open.
How to use the data
All 71 datasets are free to download at priyalifescience.com/opendata/airmid/v1 as CSV and JSON, with a search page and a catalog.json index for programs. The guide How to use Airmid Éireann open pharma data explains each dataset with examples, and the code is open source on GitHub.
Frequently asked questions
Q: What is new in Airmid Éireann 1.5?
A: The HSE-PCRS list of reimbursable items with prices, revenue by product for 40 large companies, their deal filings, and EU pharma merger cases, bringing the collection to 71 datasets and 1,770,490 records.
Q: Is the PCRS price list official?
A: It is the list PCRS publishes on its website, collected every week. PCRS notes that contractors should still check its existing information sources for the definitive rules on prescribing and dispensing.
Q: Can I reuse the PCRS data commercially?
A: The PCRS website says its information cannot be used commercially without its written consent. Airmid Éireann publishes it with that consent; anyone else planning commercial use should ask PCRS.
Q: How do I cite version 1.5?
A: Use the DOI 10.5281/zenodo.23688829 for this version, or 10.5281/zenodo.23336432 for all versions, and credit each dataset's original publisher.
What comes next
Datasets from bodies that grant permission will be added in later releases. The data is refreshed every week, and every release is archived on Zenodo with its own DOI.
