Study summary

Although the benefits of adapted physical activity (APA) are well documented in the scientific literature, few studies have specifically examined the impact of adapted boxing on body image and self-esteem in patients with haematological conditions. The current approach relies on the empirical observations of healthcare professionals, but no systematic evaluation has been conducted to quantify the actual effects of this practice on patients. This project therefore aims to address this lack of data by rigorously and scientifically assessing the impact of a boxing session on patients' psychological and emotional well-being. The use of validated questionnaires (Rosenberg Scale, QIC, EORTC QLQ-C30) will provide objective and comparable measures12.

Inclusion Criteria: 1. Patients aged 18 or over 2. Patients diagnosed with cancer currently undergoing treatment in a haematology department (e.g. leukaemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, etc.), at various stages of their treatment journey 3. Patients considered sufficiently stable to undertake adapted physical activity following medical assessment (no medical contraindications to practising adapted boxing) and for whom it is offered as part of their standard care 4. Patients who have given their consent to participate in the study 5. Patients covered by a statutory health insurance scheme 6. Patients who have been prescribed adapted physical activity by a doctor Exclusion Criteria: 1. Minors 2. Individuals subject to a court-ordered protective measure (judicial protection order, guardianship, curatorship, etc.) 3. Inability to provide the individual with informed consent (difficulties in understanding, insufficient command of French, etc.) 4. Patients with neurological or psychiatric disorders, including severe depression 5. Pregnant women (this criterion will be recorded based on the patient's statement) 6. Breastfeeding women

Primary outcome measure(s)

  • Change in Body Image Score Assessed Using the QIC Questionnaire — Immediately before the adapted boxing session, immediately after the session, and 30 days after the session.
Body image will be assessed using the QIC questionnaire. Scores will be compared before and immediately after the adapted boxing session to evaluate changes in body image.
  • Patients' Perceptions of Body Image Assessed Through Semi-Structured Interviews — Immediately before the adapted boxing session, immediately after the session, and 30 days after the session.
Patients' perceptions and experiences of body image will be explored through semi-structured interviews. Interview data will be analyzed qualitatively to identify themes related to body image following the adapted boxing session.
