Mapping Joint Damage Patterns in Femoroacetabular Impingement
Condition(s) studied
Study summary
The goal of this observational study is to document clinical outcomes after primary hip arthroscopy in patients with femoroacetabular impingement, describe the pathology zone distribution and detect whether the pathology site impact the outcomes. The main questions it aims to answer are:
* Does hip-related quality of life improve from before surgery to 12 months after surgery?
* Where inside the hip joint (front, mixed, or back) does cartilage and labral damage most commonly occur in patients undergoing arthroscopy for FAI?
* Do pain and quality-of-life outcomes at 12 months differ between patients based on the hip damage region?
Participants will
* Complete questionnaires about hip pain and function (iHOT-12, a pain scale, and a quality-of-life questionnaire) before surgery
* Undergo standard hip arthroscopy, during which the surgeon will record the exact location and grade of any joint damage found
* Complete the same questionnaires again 12 months after surgery
Eligibility
Primary outcome measure(s)
- Change in iHOT-12 from baseline to 12 months for the whole cohort — measured prior to and 12 months after surgery
Participants will complete a questionnaire for the iHOT-12
