Effectiveness of Sensorimotor Proprioceptive Stimulation Combined With Conventional Physical Therapy on Symptoms, Sensory Function, Proprioception, and Hand Function in Patients With Mild-to-Moderate Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Condition(s) studied
Investigational drug(s) / intervention(s)
sensorimotor proprioceptive stimulation: Participants will receive sensorimotor proprioceptive stimulation combined with conventional physical therapy. The program will include joint-position training, tactile sensory stimulation, wrist and hand coordination exercises, tendon and median-nerve gliding, grip and pinch activities, and progressive functional hand exercises.
conventional physical therapy: Participants will receive conventional physical therapy alone, including education, ergonomic advice, wrist and hand range-of-motion exercises, tendon-gliding exercises, strengthening exercises, and a standardized home-exercise program.
Study summary
This randomized controlled trial will evaluate whether adding sensorimotor proprioceptive stimulation to conventional physiotherapy improves symptoms and hand function in patients with mild-to-moderate carpal tunnel syndrome. The primary outcome is change in the Boston Symptom Severity Scale, while secondary outcomes include functional status, pain, paresthesia, nerve conduction, median-nerve morphology, proprioception, and hand strength.
Eligibility
Primary outcome measure(s)
- Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire Symptom Severity Scale — baseline
The Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire Symptom Severity Scale consists of 11 items assessing pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, nocturnal symptoms, and difficulty grasping objects. Each item is scored from 1 to 5. The total score will be calculated as the mean of the 11 item scores: Mean SSS score = sum of the 11 item scores ÷ 11 The final score ranges from 1 to 5, with higher scores indicating greater symptom severity.
