Most Irish pharma, biotech and MedTech employers take applications through Workday, with SAP SuccessFactors second. Of the Big 4, Deloitte and PwC use Workday, EY uses SuccessFactors and KPMG uses Avature. Below is the system each employer uses, how it reads your CV, and what to change so it reads yours well.

Front end vs ATS: many employers show a branded careers site (Phenom, Radancy, Eightfold) on top of the system that actually stores your application. The CV is read by the system behind it, shown in the third column. Not listed? Click Apply on any job and read the web address: myworkdayjobs.com is Workday, successfactors is SAP SuccessFactors, smartrecruiters.com is SmartRecruiters, avature.net is Avature, icims.com is iCIMS, taleo.net is Oracle Taleo.
SAP says scanned or image PDFs do not parse in SuccessFactors; Greenhouse, Jobvite, Recruitee and Personio reject scanned or locked files. A PDF you can select text in is fine everywhere.
Textkernel reports that columns are a real source of extraction errors, and Workable and Daxtra list tables, columns and text boxes among the main causes of failed parsing.
Recruitee and Workable list a missing email, or contact details placed in a header or footer, as top reasons a CV fails to parse.
Every AI ranking feature (Workday HiredScore, Eightfold, Phenom Fit Score, SuccessFactors skills matching) grades the titles and skills it extracts. Spell out acronyms once: Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA).
Systems calculate years of experience from your dates; seasons ("Summer 2023") and mixed formats break that.
Profile, Work Experience, Education, Skills, Certifications: the names parsers map to fields.
Irish career services (gradireland, TCD Careers) expect two pages at most; date of birth, marital status and gender relate to the grounds in the Employment Equality Acts.
Hard rejections usually come from knockout questions (work permit, location, licence) or from a person, not from your CV's design.
Workday turns your uploaded CV into editable application fields ("Autofill with resume"), and recruiters search that structured record rather than your file. Many employers add HiredScore, which grades applicants A to D from the skills and experience Workday extracted. Workday does not publish which parser it uses.
Used by: Pfizer, MSD, Johnson & Johnson (incl. Innovative Medicine), Eli Lilly, Amgen (incl. Horizon), Regeneron, Takeda, Bristol Myers Squibb, Sanofi, Novartis, AstraZeneca, Gilead, Roche, GSK, Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Viatris, Mallinckrodt, Organon, Lonza, ICON plc, Medtronic, Stryker, Abbott, Edwards Lifesciences, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Beckman Coulter (Danaher), ResMed, Integer, BD (Becton Dickinson), Baxter, Deloitte Ireland, PwC Ireland, Accenture, Intel, Analog Devices.
SuccessFactors uses the Textkernel parser, which matches meaning as well as exact words. SAP states that scanned or image-based PDFs will not parse as expected. An optional AI skills-matching feature compares the skills extracted from your CV with the role.
Used by: Astellas, Grifols, Perrigo, Merck KGaA (MilliporeSigma), Bayer, Servier, Bausch + Lomb, Novo Nordisk, Recordati, Bausch Health, Boston Scientific, Zimmer Biomet, West Pharmaceutical Services, Teleflex, Hollister, EY Ireland, Kerry Group, Glanbia.
HSE posts do not accept CVs: you upload the post-specific application form, and nothing can be changed after the closing date. Shortlisting is against the criteria in the job specification.
Used by: Almac, HSE, Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Enterprise Ireland.
University portals; usually an application form plus CV and cover letter upload. Parsing behaviour is not published.
Used by: Trinity College Dublin, UCD, UCC.
iCIMS does not publish its parser. Secondary sources describe a Copilot "Role Fit" view and candidate summaries for recruiters; treat that as unconfirmed.
Used by: Hovione, Cook Medical.
Eightfold's own parser removes your name, location and phone, then matches skills and experience to the role with a 0 to 5 score. It states the score does not replace human decision-making.
Used by: Teva, Microsoft.
SmartRecruiters also uses Textkernel. Its assistant pre-fills your application from the CV and asks you to confirm the details. Its partner documentation gives a 2 MB file limit.
Used by: AbbVie (incl. Allergan Aesthetics).
Jobvite rejects scanned or locked PDFs. It shares an AI "Talent Fit" summary with Lever, which lists strengths, points to clarify and concerns for the recruiter.
Used by: BioMarin.
An older Oracle system; its parser is not publicly documented. Secondary sources describe it as strict about section headings and date formats.
Used by: Alkermes.
Avature does not publish how it parses CVs or whether it ranks candidates. Follow the universal rules below.
Used by: KPMG Ireland.
publicjobs.ie runs on Oleeo with fully digital application forms. A CV is asked for only when the competition booklet says so, usually for senior or specific technical roles. Panels shortlist by comparing your form against the essential, desirable and competency criteria.
Used by: publicjobs.ie (Civil Service, many state bodies).
Recruitment agencies store your CV in their CRM and search it by keyword for months afterwards. Agencies usually re-format CVs onto their own branded template before sending them to a client, often removing your contact details.
Used by: Cpl (recruitment agency).
Every system above turns your CV into structured fields. Between 2024 and 2026 the vendors added optional AI that grades or ranks applications against the job: Workday's HiredScore grades applicants A to D, Eightfold gives a 0 to 5 match score and Phenom uses a Fit Score. Whether a particular employer has switched these on is usually not public, so the system name in the apply link does not tell you.
Of the employers on this page, only two say so in their own published pages: AstraZeneca's candidate privacy notice (June 2026) says it uses Eightfold to score applications automatically and that every application is reviewed by a person, and Microsoft's careers site says Eightfold gives applications a 0 to 5 match score and that recruiters make the decisions. We found no published statement that publicjobs.ie or the HSE use AI screening.
Read the employer's candidate (or applicant) privacy notice, usually linked from its careers site or the application form. Under GDPR it must tell you how your data is processed, including any automated scoring.
Several systems now check applications for signs of fraud or AI-generated profiles (Oracle, Greenhouse, Phenom and others added this in 2025 and 2026). Keep your CV, your application answers (work permit, dates, job titles) and your LinkedIn profile consistent, write in your own words, and do not list skills you cannot discuss in an interview.
In the EU, AI used to screen or rank job applicants is classed as high-risk under the AI Act. Those obligations were postponed and now apply from 2 December 2027; GDPR already applies. In the US, Mobley v. Workday is an ongoing age-discrimination case about AI screening; no court has found Workday liable.
Workday. Of the pharma, biotech and MedTech employers we checked on 7 October 2026, most apply through Workday (Pfizer, MSD, J&J, Lilly, Amgen, Takeda, AstraZeneca, Gilead, Roche, Medtronic, Stryker and others). SAP SuccessFactors is second (Astellas, Boston Scientific, Zimmer Biomet, Bayer, Merck KGaA).
Deloitte Ireland and PwC use Workday, EY Ireland uses SAP SuccessFactors and KPMG Ireland uses Avature, based on each firm's own apply links on 7 October 2026.
No. The figure traces back to a 2012 sales pitch with no published method. Applicant tracking systems parse and rank; rejections come from knockout questions and from recruiters.
Either, as long as the text is real (you can select it). There is no published evidence that Word beats PDF for Workday or any other system used in Ireland. Scanned and image-only files are what fail.
Most systems they use now sell optional AI that grades or ranks applications (Workday HiredScore grades A to D, Eightfold scores 0 to 5, Phenom uses a Fit Score), but whether a particular employer has switched it on is usually not public. As of October 2026 only AstraZeneca and Microsoft, of the employers on this page, publicly say they use AI scoring, and both say a person makes the decision. To check an employer, read its candidate privacy notice.
No. HSE posts on Rezoomo require the post-specific application form. publicjobs.ie asks for a CV only when the candidate booklet says so.
On 7 October 2026 we opened each employer's careers site and apply links and recorded the system that receives the application (for example a myworkdayjobs.com or successfactors address), and where possible confirmed live Irish job postings on it. Employers we could not verify are left out. AI features and which employers use them come from vendor release notes and customer stories and from employers' own privacy notices; an employer is only shown as using AI where its own page says so. How each system reads a CV is taken from the vendors' own documentation (SAP Help, Textkernel, Workday customer documentation, Eightfold, Phenom, Jobvite, Recruitee, Workable) and from Irish sources (HSE, publicjobs.ie, gradireland, TCD Careers). Systems change: if you spot an employer that has moved, tell us at info@priyalifescience.com and we will update the page. Fixes are recorded in our corrections log.
